Apple plans to invest more than 10 billion in LGD to build a new OLED factory

According to South Korean media The Korea Herald, Apple is currently negotiating with LG Display. Apple will invest 2 trillion - 3 trillion won (about 11.8 billion - 17.8 billion yuan) from LG Display to form an OLED production line. In return, LG Display will only produce OLED screens for the Apple iPhone.

Today, Samsung is the leader in the OLED screen market. Samsung has a 95% market share on small-size panels. In order to continue to maintain its dominance, Samsung also announced last week that it will invest 21 billion US dollars to build the world's largest OLED screen factory.

LG Display's new factory, called E6, will be officially put into use in 2019. Last month, LG also said it plans to invest 3.5 billion US dollars to expand OLED screen production capacity. Now, a large part of the funds are from the wealthy apple. For Apple, this is definitely a steady business, they not only consolidate their OLED screen supply, but also get a very competitive price. In the context of the crazy robbing of OLED screens by various manufacturers, Apple is definitely a big bargain.

It is worth noting that although the LG factory will become Apple's "backyard", the Silicon Valley giant can still buy OLED screens from other manufacturers. Of course, this is also Apple's consistent style, which not only ensures a stable supply of parts, but also allows them to have strong bargaining power.
