With a total investment of 2.25 billion yuan, Asia’s first trough solar-gas combined cycle power station has recently started construction in Yanchi, Ningxia. The construction of this project plays an important role in the field of solar thermal power generation in Asia.
The new trough solar-gas combined cycle power station was invested and constructed by Hanas New Energy Group, jointly with North China Electric Power Design Institute, Siemens, and other companies, with a planned capacity of 92.5 megawatts, making full use of the rich solar energy resources in Ningxia and Desert wasteland has reduced the environmental pollution caused by fossil fuels such as coal, and has adjusted and improved the local energy structure.
According to the person in charge of the Hanas New Energy Group project, the development and application of trough solar thermal power generation technology has effectively realized large-capacity solar thermal power generation and improved the overall efficiency of solar power plants.
The project is scheduled to be completed and put into operation in October 2013. After completion, it is expected to save more than 100,000 tons of standard coal annually.
The trough solar-gas combined cycle power station has been successfully operated in Egypt, the United States, and other countries, which proves that the system is suitable for areas with abundant photothermal and oil and gas resources, and has broad application prospects in western and northern China.
