Cisco is a global leader in the IT and networking industries. Cisco has its own technology and unique research into the network economy model that makes it one of the successful practitioners of web applications. According to reports, Cisco recently acquired artificial intelligence startup Perspica, which will focus on machine learning research.
Cisco announced today that it will acquire artificial intelligence startup Perspica. The exact amount and terms of the transaction have not been announced. The transaction successfully stacked the number of companies acquired by Cisco to 200. Perspica's technology uses flow processing and machine learning to quickly analyze data from enterprise IT systems.
Cisco announced in January that it will acquire AppDynamics, an application performance management platform, for $3.7 billion, and the newly acquired Perspica will work with the AppDynamics team. Cisco has now accelerated much of AppDynamics' work, from upgrading R&D resources to accelerating product launches. , providing good support for Cisco's marketing strategy.
Known for its stream-based processing, Perspica is able to apply machine learning to data without having to wait until the data is stored before it can be processed. They also have expertise in domain-specific machine learning, which means they can absorb and process large amounts of data. Cisco believes that combining Perspica with AppDynamics' core business data model will enable Cisco to deliver rapidly expanding demand for future performance to keep pace with the company.
Rob Salvagno, vice president of business development at Cisco, wrote in the blog post: "By adding Perspica to our AppDynamics capabilities, customers will be able to take advantage of machine learning capabilities to analyze large amounts of application-related data in real-time and business contexts, including Deploy applications in public, private, and cloudy environments. AppDynamics and Perspica together provide a way for companies to filter critical signals and drive growth based on their digital view of their business."
Since the acquisition of AppDynamics, Cisco has been focused on accelerating the core AppDynamics business. Cisco said this week that it is working to add new Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities to the AppDynamics platform. The Perspica acquisition will help Cisco realize the AppDynamics vision.
Perspica will further enhance Cisco's leadership in application intelligence by:
· Perspica's engineering talents specializing in data science and highly scalable data platforms will join Cisco's team to transform the company's complex systems into competitive advantage
Stream-based data processing can derive exceptions from data before data storage, helping Cisco users improve business insight
· Machine learning will help Cisco users improve analytics and core APM solutions
The Perspica team will join the Cisco AppDynamics team led by David Wadhwani, senior vice president and general manager of the Applications Group, which is expected to complete the acquisition of Perspica in the second quarter of FY18.
