[High-tech LED News] Citizen Holdings, the global leader in mobile phone LEDs, recently announced its second quarter of this year (July-September 2011): its consolidated revenue for July-September was 72.108 billion yen, down 1% from the same period last year. The combined operating profit increased slightly by 0.3% to 5.041 billion yen, while the combined net profit declined by 20% to 2.045 billion yen.
Citizen said that although the sales of LEDs for machine tools and lighting have increased, the yen has soared and sales of large overseas customers have been sluggish, resulting in a decline in sales of LEDs for mobile phones, as well as sales of quartz components and watches.
Accumulated Citizen's first half of the year (April-September 2011) consolidated revenue of 135.759 billion yen, an annual decline of 1.5%; consolidated operating profit of 7.559 billion yen, an annual decline of 5.6%; combined net profit of 4.428 billion yen, annual decline of 20.1%.
Among them, from April to September, the Citizen component business (including LED, quartz components, glass substrates for HDD, etc.) revenue of 31.8 billion yen, down 14.8% year-on-year, while the profit margin decreased by 52.5% to 1.1 billion yen.
Citizen pointed out that after assessing the impact of the US economic downturn, the European debt crisis and the floods in Thailand, the combined revenue target for this year (April 2011-March 2012) was revised down 2.37% to 281 billion yen from 288.7 billion yen. (The annual reduction of 1.4%), the combined operating profit and net profit will remain unchanged from the original estimate of 16 billion yen (down 4.2%) and 9 billion yen (up 75.7% year-on-year).
