Common dimming current mode LED driver for PWM dimming control

National Semiconductor has announced the industry's first common-current mode high-brightness LED driver with pulse-width modulation dimming control. The LM3433 LED driver is the latest addition to National's PowerWise energy-efficient series that can drive high-power, high-brightness LEDs, especially for screen backlight systems, projectors, and solid-state lights.

National's LM3433 LED driver can support a common anode backlight system design, and the common anode design has the advantage of enhancing the display's heat dissipation capability, thus opening up new applications for LEDs, such as large-screen LCD TVs. Use stable and reliable LEDs. In addition, the increasingly compact "pocket projector" has also begun to use LEDs, because LEDs have a wider color gamut than the ultra-high-performance bulbs currently in use, and the performance is more reliable and longer life.

Luminus' PhtalLight LED is a new generation of LED products for point source high brightness lighting systems. The PhlatLight red-green blue LEDs on display at National's booth can output more than 3,000 white lumens. John Langevin, vice president of marketing at Luminus, said: "PhlatLight LEDs are widely used in many different displays and lighting systems. National's LM3433 drivers provide our customers with a comprehensive solution to ensure that the PhlatLight chipset is adequate Play to its performance."

LM3433LED Driver Specifications

National's LM3433 is a fixed-on-time DC-DC step-down constant current regulator that can output a negative constant current to drive high-power, high-brightness LEDs. The output of a negative voltage constant current allows the anode of the LED to be directly connected to the ground reference chassis, thereby increasing the heat dissipation capability of the heat sink. Because the chip uses a shorter fixed on-time structure, the system can use small external passive components without the need for an output capacitor. In addition, the LM3433 has two current control modes that adjust the brightness of the LEDs. The analog current control mode uses the input signal to regulate the current to compensate for different brands of LEDs. Another current control mode uses a logic level dimming control input signal to control the brightness of the LED in a PWM control. The PWM control mode uses parallel switches to connect the LEDs together, allowing the PWM dimming control frequency to be as high as 40KHz. The chip also features other features such as thermal shutdown protection, VCC undervoltage lockout, and logic level shutdown mode.

The LM3433 is available in a 24-pin LLP package.

National Semiconductor's power management products

Multi-function portable electronic products and even larger devices that use AC power are subject to strict restrictions on size and energy. For this reason, National Semiconductor has been committed to providing various design solutions for these applications to solve the design of power management systems. problem. Whether you are a novice in designing a power supply system or a power management expert, you can take advantage of National Semiconductor's products, technical experience and design tools. For example, they can use the more complex power supply system developed by the company to design environmentally friendly. Standard electronic products, and can be launched in the shortest possible time. National Semiconductor offers a variety of high-performance silicon products, including switching regulators, such as the company's flagship SIMPLE SWITCHER? series, and special Applications such as white LED drivers and PoE controllers.
