PI Introduces A19 LED Driver Reference Design for 100W Incandescent Bulb Replacement Applications

Power Integrations, the world's most efficient and longest-lived manufacturer of off-line LED driver ICs, introduced an 18W high-efficiency (88%), non-isolated A19 LED driver reference design, the DER-323, based on August 30. PI's LinkSwitchTM-PL series of ultra-thin IC devices, the LNK460VG, are designed for 100 W incandescent bulb replacement applications and are suitable for low input operating voltage ranges (90 VAC to 135 VAC). Its low circuit cost requires only a simple single panel and 25 components. Without potting, the transformer is replaced by a low cost inductor.

The DER-323 uses a simple buck-boost transformer topology for easy insertion into the A19 bulb. Designed to meet EN61000-3-2 (C) standards and with a high power factor of over 0.98, the design easily meets the compliance requirements for commercial and consumer lighting. Because the LinkSwitch-PL IC integrates both PFC and CC converter functions in a single-stage topology, high-capacity electrolytic capacitors are not required, extending product life.
