China Unicom's first shot after the mixed reform, aimed at the Internet of Things industry.
On August 25th, China Unicom announced the establishment of the “China Unicom Internet of Things Industry Allianceâ€, including more than 30 companies including Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu and Huawei. This is also the "first appearance" of China Unicom's mixed-reform program.
Wang Xiaochu, chairman of China Unicom, said in the above speech: "China Unicom's mixed reform has just been successfully settled. According to the plan, we mainly do two aspects of work. One is to improve China Unicom's incentive system internally; the other is to cooperate with strategic partners. Jointly improve business and innovation capabilities. Innovative business development is also one of the important reasons for China Unicom's mixed-reform, and the Internet of Things is undoubtedly an important field in the communications industry. With the continuous advancement of communication equipment and sensing equipment, the Internet of Things has a huge space. â€
In fact, China Unicom had a lot of layout on the Internet of Things.
"At present, China Unicom has completed the commercialization of NB-IoT trials in dozens of cities across the country. More than 300 cities across the country have the ability to quickly access NB-IoT networks. At the same time, China Unicom has also opened in Beijing, Guangdong and other regions. The eMTC trial network has trial commercial conditions.†Lu Yimin, general manager of China Unicom, said at the Internet of Things conference that China Unicom is actively building the Internet of Things network needed for diversified, personalized and complex scenarios in terms of network capabilities. Promote the commercial use of the NB-IoT national network and accelerate the eMTC trial commercial process.
He said that China Unicom's NB-IoT/eMTC available network frequency is 900 MHz and 1800MHz, and called on all parties in the industry to jointly promote the Internet of Things full-band module to become the standard of the Internet of Things industry, and even national standards.
In the Internet of Things industry alliance launched by China Unicom on the 25th, there are many "mixed and modified" partners. In addition to BAT, members also have Aerospace Science and Industry Group, Electronic Technology Group, Shugen Internet, Neusoft, Guangqi Internet, China Institute of Information and Communications, Xinhua III, Bosch, Haier, Shanghai Nokia Bell, Honeywell, ZTE, Huawei, Hanwei Electronics, Lenovo, Sichuan Instrument, iSoftStone, Intel, AsiaInfo, Datang, Yitong Century 30 units including Qualcomm, Kunlun Coast, SAP, Cisco, and Ericsson.
Talking about industrial cooperation, Lu Yimin said that China Unicom will arrange in four directions: vertical field, industry alliance, developer plan and financial support. Among them, the financial support is divided into two parts. On the one hand, it will set up special funds together with the Guangzhou Municipal Government Guiding Fund, based on Guangzhou to radiate the whole country, and invest abroad through equity or sub-funds; on the other hand, special subsidies will be set up for IoT terminals, modules and other related components and key applications. According to relevant sources, the investment scale of the Internet of Things fund reached 10 billion, of which the initial investment was 1 billion yuan.
"For the investment in the Internet of Things, in fact, the three major operators are more active, especially like China Telecom, when the 800MHz 4G network is transformed, the NB-IoT network is built." Telecom expert Fu Liang told the First Financial Reporter that the Internet of Things is not an operator. To make money yourself, more is to let others earn money, and downstream companies earn money, and operators can make money.
Earlier, China Telecom also announced the establishment of the Internet of Things platform, opening up, coupled with China Mobile's plans on the OneNET IoT platform, car networking and IoT chips and modules, the actions of the three major operators to deploy the Internet of Things have been Fully launched.
From the perspective of the current revenues of the three major operators, the proportion of the Internet of Things is still very good, but from the perspective of 94.8% and 370% of the Internet of Things revenue growth announced by China Mobile and China Telecom, the market is experiencing rapid growth.
According to research firm Gartner, the number of IoT devices in the world will reach 8.4 billion in 2017, up 31% from 6.4 billion in 2016, while the global population will be 7.5 billion. The number of IoT devices in 2020 will reach 20.4 billion.
