Diodes all-in-one fan driver simplifies circuit design

Diodes Incorporated (Diodes Incorporated) Release unity many single-phase fan motor drive 12V AH5772 and AH5773, for consumer products Dian Dian industrial household appliances and office equipment into the low pressure brushless DC fan control. Two highly integrated fan drivers offer miniature package options and heat treatment capabilities, saving space by reducing component count and shrinking printed circuit board size.

The new device integrates a highly sensitive Hall sensor and a pair of input amplifiers that can be used with fan motor magnets with weak magnetic fields to save cost. The sensor provides the ideal voltage and thermal coefficient over a very wide operating range, plus minimal tolerances to help stabilize motor performance and simplify manufacturing and testing processes.

Two compact motor drivers with low on-resistance H-bridge output stages that support up to 500mA of continuous current sinking and sinking at 1A peak for larger, more complex drives and pre-driver performance . Means providing a small number of thin lead package options, including the appropriate AH5773 MSOP8-EP and U-DFN2020-6 package, and a package for the TO-94 AH5772.

The new fan driver offers a wide operating voltage range from 2.4V to 18V, and the low startup voltage allows the fan to operate 20% lower than the 12V rated voltage, making it suitable for a wide range of brushless DC cooling fan applications. The device's operating temperature range is -40oC to 105oC, which meets the stringent temperature requirements of the application.

The two drivers adjust the fan speed through voltage input control. The AH5773 also provides more accurate speed control by varying the duty cycle of a series of PWM signals applied to a dedicated pulse width modulation (PWM) input. When the PWM pin of the AH5773 is pulled low for more than 65ms, the device enters standby mode, typically consuming only 100μA. If the PWM pin is pulled high, the drive output will restart. This quick start function can be used in the rotor stall protection state to restart the fan motor before the end of the lockout time.

To prevent overheating or damage to the fan motor coils, the two fan drivers include a rotor stall protection function that shuts down the drive output when a rotor stall is detected and the drive automatically restarts after the rotor is unlocked. The device handles the lock detection, shutdown, and auto-restart time internally, without the need for an external timing capacitor.

The AH5772 and AH5773 also integrate a comprehensive protection function such as overvoltage protection. When an overvoltage condition is detected, the device is turned off and then enters standby mode to prevent the motor coil from being pressed. The over-temperature shutdown function effectively protects the temperature of the device.

Incremental Encoder

Incremental encoders provide speed, direction and relative position feedback by generating a stream of binary pulses proportional to the rotation of a motor or driven shaft. Lander offers both optical and magnetic incremental encoders in 4 mounting options: shafted with coupling, hollow-shaft, hub-shaft or bearingless. Single channel incremental encoders can measure speed which dual channel or quadrature encoders (AB) can interpret direction based on the phase relationship between the 2 channels. Indexed quadrature encoders (ABZ) are also available for homing location are startup.
