The industry survey agency IDC will release reports on the smart phone market at regular intervals, and judge the future development of the smart phone market based on the data. A few days ago, IDC released the latest 2014 global smartphone market survey data. According to IDC data, although the growth of the smartphone market has slowed down due to the maturity of the market, the growth and demand of the smartphone market is still strong.

IDC expects global smartphone shipments to increase significantly in 2014, with shipments reaching 1.25 billion units, up 23.8% from the previous year. By 2018, this number will reach 1.8 billion units.

However, the growth rate of smartphones in mature markets is expected to slow down in 2014, and shipments in emerging markets have accounted for more than 50% of annual smartphone shipments. In the same period last year, the growth rate of mature smartphones reached double digits, and it is expected that the growth rate of smartphones in mature markets will slow down to 4.9% in 2014.

It is estimated that smartphone shipments in emerging markets will reach 920.8 million units in 2014, accounting for 73.5% of total smartphone shipments in 2014. Among them, the Android system smartphone will occupy 88.4%.
