Netease Technology News December 19, Volkswagen has promised to establish a network of electric vehicle charging stations in the United States. Reuters reported that Volkswagen’s US subsidiary plans to install 2,800 electric vehicle charging stations in 17 major cities in the United States in 2019. This means that the public needs to invest about 2 billion U.S. dollars, while California can get nearly half of the investment.
This may sound like a lot of money, but as far as the current environment is concerned, as of February this year, Volkswagen has already paid more than US$20 billion for its diesel emissions scandal.
In contrast, Tesla said in April this year that it will have 10,000 super charging stations by the end of this year. Tesla spent 5 years installing 5,400 such systems. However, the company promised to increase the number of charging stations at normal speed from 9,000 to 15,000 this year. Tesla’s first supercharged break came on line in November.
Tesla, however, has its own troubles: The company could not quickly produce a Model 3 sedan with $35,000 to meet its scheduled demand. (small)
